While our initial efforts supported students across seven districts in Nepal, we are now focusing our program in the rural communities of Jajarkot and Dang districts to strengthen our impact and provide more sustained support. With support we hope to grow and expand the areas of the program.

SEE Nepal collects regular updates on sponsored students six months after sponsorship begins, followed by annual updates at the end of each school year.

Reaching some of the schools and students can be challenging due to remote locations and limited road access. In some cases, our dedicated field volunteers need to walk for more than four hours to reach the communities. Despite these challenges, our team remains committed to visiting students and gathering updates to help sponsors stay connected with the children they support.

Students for SEE scholarships are selected in this way: 

• Families who have land which cannot feed the family throughout the year

• Nobody in the family has permanent jobs like teachers or in any government or private offices

• They are subsistence farmers.

• Their children are doing well in studies.

Field staff share applicant profiles of those meet these criteria at the month Community Good’s (CG) meeting. CGs discuss the issue in the group and select the most needy students who are either son or daughter of the group member for the SEE scholarship unanimously.  CG will monitor whether the family who received the SEE scholarship are following the other conditions of SEE Scholarships such as:

• Sponsored student is regularly going to school

• Has not failed in exams

• Has not dropped out, has not gotten married (ect) 

The Community Group is responsible for select and monitoring students after handing over the scholarship.

To limit transaction fees, funds are collected and sent together for every 10 students.

Our field staff will hand over the SEE scholarship money in cash to the chairperson or any other key person of Community Group(CG) on the day of their monthly meeting. Field staff or CG members also invite teachers or the Principal from the school where sponsored student is studying, Ward Chief and other distinguished people in the village. Our field staff will explain terms and conditions of SEE Scholarship and CG will explain how that particular student was selected. Ward Chief or Principal or chairperson of CG will hand over the SEE Scholarship  in cash to the sponsored students and her guardian (mostly her mother who is a member in the CG).  Our field staff will send photos of group meetings, cash being hand over and thank you letters from students so we can assure ourselves that the funds are being handed over to the student.
